Cutest Tripawd in Alaska!
Hi all – been FOREVER since I wrote a blog post 🙂 Rene thought it would be a good idea if I blogged once my family and I relocated to Alaska so everyone could see our journey.
All in all – 6 days in a Subaru Imprezza with 2 people and 3 dogs… it didn’t go as badly as I had imagined! The dogs did great! Sara (the white one) was a huge seat hog and Gatsby and Barret ended up sharing 1/3 of the backseat most of the trip, but they didn’t seem to mind.
So here we are in our new home in Chugiak, AK… starting our new jobs tomorrow. We have a photoblog here if you’d like to see more pics and follow our journey. Here’s to seizing the day and living our dreams!

YAAAAY! You made it! I was wondering how the trip went, that is FAST! We are so hoppy for you and look forward to watching your adventures up in the Great White North. What a fun, brave and awesome thing you guys did! WHOOOHOO! I can see Barret leading the way with all the Tripawds in Alaska!

Yay, I am so glad you made it safe. 🙂 I sure wish I would have known you were swinging through Iowa I would have tried to meet up with you for a few minutes. I can’t wait so see more pictures & hear how everyone is adjusting. I say more pictures more pictures.

Love the ones in the car knowing how Barret hogged the seat! I know,other than the cold, they’ll lpve their journey! Looks like they’ve all become instant water dogs!

Thank you so much for explaining how well large dogs do as well. I have a Chocolate Lab/Mastiff mix (160lbs) who is about to have his front left leg amputated due to bone cancer. He is 9yrs 8mon and I’ve been blessed to have him in my life since he was 8 weeks old. He is still my baby and as you well know, the hardest news I’ve ever had to deal with. Your article really helped me emotionally. Although I will be jumpy to his every move after surgery, your advice about not doing it will stick in my mind. Everybody says that if they could only help one person with something they’ve done or said, then it was worth it. FYI: You did that for me with your article. I wish there was something I could do other than say thank you to show you my appreciation. Although I am still scared and cry off and on for my baby (Gunner), I know he will adapt after reading your article. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hi! I just read several of your posts and I loved reading them! What is Barret’s diagnois? I couldn’t find it anywhere. My pit bull, Zeus, is two weeks post amputation tomorrow and your posts made me feel like we’re on the right track. Similar to you, my life came to a halt when I found out as well. I also stopped eating healthy, stopped exercising, was self medicating and spending all of my free time with him. He is doing good, but has a lot of swelling and fluid at the base of the incision. He doesn’t have much interest in his tennis balls or toys and it was good to know that this was normal. However, we STILL do not have a diagnois 🙁 Best of luck in Alaska! Keep blogging!

He had hemangioperisarcoma… soft tissue, fast growing cancer.
Good luck with everything, Heather. I can totally remember every single feeling that overwhelmed me during those weeks. As with most things, time helps all! Keep your chin up!
